Did I understand it correctly, that there's three steps in this mindfulness training?

1. Focus attention on breath

2. When attention wanders away, turn attention at the feeling state

3. Then turn attention back on breath

Yes, that's it.

And in time, you will find yourself doing the same thing when you find yourself entangled in some remnant of fear's army. Just look at the feeling state that is the subject of the confusion - then turn attention to the breath.

The first sequence starting with the breath is for training and practice.

The root purpose of this training is to allow you to develop skill at putting your attention where you want it to be, and support self-reliance.
